Afghanistan has added three new players to its squad for the upcoming Test match against New Zealand. This match will start on September 9 in Greater Noida. The well-known all-rounder Rashid Khan will not play as he is still recovering from an injury. Instead, spinners Zahir Khan and Zia-ur-Rehman will lead the team’s spin attack.
New Players in the Squad
The three uncapped players in the final 16-member squad are:
- Riaz Hassan (opener)
- Shamsurrahman (all-rounder)
- Khalil Ahmed (fast bowler)
These players will have the chance to represent Afghanistan in their first Test match.
Players Left Out
Some players who were part of the preliminary squad did not make it into the final team. Gulbadin Naib, Fareed Ahmad, and Yama Arab were left out. Fast bowler Naveed Zadran is also missing due to a side strain.

Selection Process
The Afghanistan Cricket Board explained the selection process, saying, “The squad was finalized based on the players’ performances in a 10-day preparation camp held in Greater Noida. After discussions with the captain and coaching staff, the final 16-member squad was chosen.”
