Anton Roux, Sri Lanka’s fielding coach, has decided to step down from his position. He shared the news on Wednesday, saying he will be leaving his role after working with the team since March 2022. Roux, who has a background in first-class cricket in South Africa and coaching in the Netherlands, said, “I made the decision to resign as the National Fielding Coach for Sri Lanka Cricket on August 14, 2024. This week marks my last one with SLC as I complete my handover. It has been a huge honor and a truly humbling experience to work with the Sri Lankan cricket team. The memories and experiences from this journey will stay with me forever.“
Special Moments with the Sri Lankan Team
In a LinkedIn post, Roux reflected on some of the most memorable moments during his time with the team. “Watching the unity and strength of the Sri Lankan people during difficult times, especially when we won an amazing series against Australia at home, showed what this nation and team can achieve when they come together. The energy from the fans, the passion, and the victories on the field are memories I will always hold dear.”
Roux’s last game as fielding coach for the Sri Lankan national team was during the third Test at the Oval, where Sri Lanka beat England by eight wickets. This win was Sri Lanka’s first Test win in a decade over England, making it a special conclusion to his international coaching duties.

Celebrating Achievements
Roux highlighted some of the achievements he witnessed during his time as fielding coach. “Reaching two Asia Cup finals and winning the 2022 Asia T20 Cup was a huge accomplishment, showing the true strength of this team. Bringing the trophy back to Sri Lanka and seeing the happiness it brought to the fans is something I will always cherish.“
Roux also mentioned his brief time working with the Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket Team. He praised their determination, passion, and athleticism, saying, “Their progress has been incredible, and they have become a symbol of hope for women in Sri Lanka. I am confident they will continue to achieve great success in the future.“
Personal Connection to Sri Lanka
Roux expressed his deep connection to Sri Lanka, mentioning how it became an important part of his family’s life. “Sri Lanka is the birthplace of my second son, Aiden, and the care we received at Joseph Fraser Hospital in Colombo will always be a fond memory. This country will forever hold a special place in our hearts.“
He also thanked key figures like Mahela Jayawardene, Tom Moody, Tim McCaskill, and Chris Silverwood for trusting him with the role of overseeing the fielding duties for the national team. As Roux steps away, he leaves with deep respect and appreciation for Sri Lanka and its people.
