Liverpool’s slogan, “This Means More,” is well known. Barcelona’s slogan, “Més que un club,” means “More than a club” in Catalan. But what does Real Madrid’s famous slogan, “Hala Madrid” mean?
Why Do Madrid Fans Say “Hala Madrid”?
Real Madrid supporters chant “¡Hala Madrid!” to cheer on their team. In English, it translates to “Go Madrid!” or “Come on Madrid!” It’s a shout of encouragement and is often used by fans and players alike to boost morale during intense moments. The phrase is also used across the club’s social media platforms, such as Twitter (X), Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram, and serves as a rallying cry for the team, both on and off the pitch.
The word “Hala” in Spanish is similar to “¡vamos!” (“let’s go!”) and is commonly used in sports. Interestingly, “¡Hala Madrid!” is also the title of Real Madrid’s official anthem, sometimes called “Las mocitas Madrileñas” due to a line in the song’s lyrics.

“¡Hala Madrid!… y nada más”
In 1952, to celebrate Real Madrid’s Golden Jubilee, the club’s former president Santiago Bernabéu realized the importance of traditions. As part of this, he commissioned a club anthem. The lyrics were written by Luis Cisneros Galiane, and José de Aguilar recorded the song.
In 2014, a new modern anthem titled “¡Hala Madrid!… y nada más” was written by journalist Manuel Jabois and composed by Moroccan-Swedish producer Nadir Khayat, known as RedOne. Khayat, a Grammy-winning producer, is famous for working with artists like Lady Gaga, Enrique Iglesias, and Jennifer Lopez. This anthem was created to celebrate Real Madrid’s 10th UEFA Champions League victory, fondly called “La Decima.” The song’s title translates to “Come on, Madrid! And Nothing More.”
At Real Madrid’s home stadium, the Santiago Bernabéu, this song has become a fan favorite. It plays before every match and is sung by players and fans. Famous Real Madrid players, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Sergio Ramos, and Karim Benzema, were part of the music video for this anthem. RedOne mentioned that he wanted this song to unite people in supporting Real Madrid.
Lyrics of “¡Hala Madrid!… y nada más”
[Verse 1]
History that you’ve made
History you will make
Because no one can resist
Your desire to win
[Verse 2]
The stars are coming out
My old Chamartín
From afar and up close
You bring us here
[Verse 3]
I’m wearing your T-shirt
Close to the heart
The days that you play
Are everything I am
[Pre-Chorus]
The Arrow is already running
My Madrid is already attacking
I’m struggle, I’m beauty
The scream I learned
