Delhi Capitals’ Coach Warns Prithvi Shaw About IPL Future

Delhi Capitals assistant coach Pravin Amre talked about why Prithvi Shaw hasn’t played in the last few matches of the IPL 2024. Shaw was kept on the team before the season started but didn’t play in the first two games. In his first game, he scored 43 runs off 27 balls against Chennai Super Kings and then made 66 runs off 40 balls against Mumbai Indians. However, his performance dropped after that.

Meanwhile, Abhishek Porel made good use of his chance to play. He scored 327 runs in 12 innings with a strike rate of 159.51. In DC’s last group stage game at the Arun Jaitley Stadium against the Lucknow Super Giants, Porel helped DC win by 19 runs. He made 58 runs off 33 balls and, along with Shai Hope, put together a 92-run partnership for the second wicket.

Amre explained that Shaw’s lack of form led to him being benched. He said, “Shaw was our retained player, but in the last few games, he was on the bench because he wasn’t in form. In the IPL, every game is important, and we need to win.” He added that without Shaw, the team still won games, and Porel took his chance and performed well.

Shaw played eight matches this season, scoring 198 runs at an average of 24.75 and a strike rate of 163.64, with one fifty. Porel, on the other hand, played in various positions for DC. As an opener in three matches, he scored 159 runs at a strike rate of 165.62.
