After losing by 18 runs to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya admitted they didn’t play well. He scored 16 runs from 13 balls, but MI couldn’t chase LSG’s target of 215 runs. Pandya said the team didn’t perform well throughout the season, and it’s too soon to say exactly what went wrong.
Pandya mentioned, “It’s tough. We didn’t play good cricket, which cost us the season. In this professional world, we have to always give our best. As a team, we didn’t play smart or quality cricket. It’s too early to figure out what went wrong, but the whole season was disappointing.”
In the match, MI won the toss and chose to bowl first, but LSG capitalized. KL Rahul scored 55 runs off 41 balls, and Nicholas Pooran made 75 runs from 29 balls. Marcus Stoinis and Ayush Badoni also added important runs, helping LSG reach 214/6. Piyush Chawla led MI’s bowling with three wickets.
During MI’s chase, rain briefly interrupted after four overs. However, the MI openers, Rohit Sharma (68 runs from 38 balls) and Dewald Brevis (23 runs from 20 balls), continued strong, putting up a partnership of 88 runs. Later, Naman Dhir’s impressive 62 not out from 28 balls gave MI hope, but they ultimately fell short, losing by 18 runs. Naveen-ul-Haq and Ravi Bishnoi were key bowlers for LSG, each taking two wickets.
With this win, LSG finished sixth in the standings with 14 points. MI had a tough season, ending at the bottom with only 8 points.
