The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are in control of their own destiny as they face the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs. However, there’s a chance of rain which could complicate things. RCB not only needs to win but must do so convincingly. If rain shortens the match, the situation will become even more complex, affecting their qualification chances based on how many overs are played.
RCB has performed well recently, winning their last five matches, which has put them in a good position for the playoffs. Other teams like Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants losing some of their matches has also helped RCB. Now, it’s up to them, as long as rain doesn’t cancel the game.
If the full 20-over match is played, RCB needs to win by at least 18 runs if they score 200 runs first. If the match is shortened to just 5 overs, RCB would need to keep CSK from scoring more than 62 runs if RCB scores 80 runs first.
Depending on how much the match is reduced by rain, the specifics of how RCB can qualify will change.

The rained-out game between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans clarified things for RCB. If GT had beaten SRH, two playoff spots would be open.
Now, RCB needs to win to secure the last playoff spot. For CSK, they could still qualify even if they lose, as long as their Net Run Rate stays higher than RCB’s.
A loss to RCB doesn’t necessarily knock CSK out of the playoffs. Since CSK’s Net Run Rate is better than RCB’s, a close loss would still allow CSK to advance.
