CSK Official Reveals MS Dhoni’s Retirement Plan

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) missed out on the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs after losing their last league game to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Saturday. Both teams had 14 points, but RCB advanced because their Net Run Rate was slightly better than CSK’s. This loss upset CSK fans, especially since it might be MS Dhoni’s last season. However, a CSK official mentioned that Dhoni hasn’t told the team if he’s retiring.

In an interview with the Times of India, a senior CSK official said that the game changed when the ball was replaced after Dhoni hit a 110-meter six. The new ball was drier, making it harder to hit, which contributed to their loss.

Dhoni went back to Ranchi on Sunday and was the first from CSK to leave, clearly upset by the loss to RCB. Regarding his retirement, a source said Dhoni hasn’t made any decisions yet and asked the team to wait a couple of months for his final decision.

The source also mentioned that Dhoni had no issues running between the wickets, which is a good sign. The ‘Impact Player’ rule, which allows players to be substituted during a match, might influence Dhoni’s decision. If the rule stays, Dhoni might continue playing because it allows him to focus on specific roles. If the rule is removed, his return could be harder.

A CSK official said, “We will wait for Dhoni’s communication. He always thinks about what’s best for the team, so we will see what happens.”
