England Players To Watch Out For T20 World Cup 2024

People are eagerly looking forward to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in the West Indies and the USA. One team that everyone is talking about is England. They have become very strong in limited-overs cricket, especially in ICC tournaments.

England did really well in the last T20 World Cup in 2022, showing how skilled they are. They also won the tournament the last time it was held in the West Indies in 2010. This shows that England has a strong history of success in T20 cricket, and they are entering the 2024 tournament as defending champions with a lot of confidence.

1. Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler scored 225 runs for England in the T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022 while leading the team. He has played over 400 T20 matches, more than 100 of them international games, and has impressive stats both as a batsman and wicketkeeper. He has also scored plenty of runs in limited-overs cricket in the West Indies, one of the hosts for the 2024 T20 World Cup.

In the IPL 2024 season, Buttler played exceptionally well for the Rajasthan Royals. He opened the innings and scored over 350 runs in just 11 innings, averaging nearly 40 with a strike rate of 140.78. He hit two centuries, both crucial in match-winning efforts, including a blazing 107 not out off 60 balls against KKR to secure a dramatic 224-run chase on the final ball of the match.

Jos Buttler’s stellar performances in T20 internationals, experience as a World Cup-winning captain, and recent IPL success position him as a key player for England in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

2. Sam Curran

Sam Curran, England’s versatile player, won the award for the best player of the tournament after his team clinched the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia. He took 13 wickets throughout the competition, including a crucial spell of 3-12 in the final against Pakistan at the famous MCG.

Curran’s skills in T20 cricket also earned him the captaincy of Punjab Kings in the IPL. Leading the team in the absence of the injured Shikhar Dhawan in 2024, the 26-year-old guided Punjab Kings to impressive victories against Rajasthan Royals, KKR, and defending champions CSK. During a match against the Royals, Curran scored an important unbeaten 63 runs off 41 balls and also took two wickets, earning him the title of ‘Player of the Match’.

Curran’s outstanding performances with both bat and ball make him a key player to watch for England in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

3. Phil Salt

Phil Salt scored 435 runs in his first 12 innings of IPL 2024, with a strike rate of over 180. He hit four impressive half-centuries, three of which helped his team win matches. One of his best innings was an unbeaten 89 off 47 balls that helped KKR easily chase down LSG’s total of 161. He also scored 68 runs off 33 balls to dominate Delhi Capitals in another match. Salt, alongside his opening partner Sunil Narine, set new records for KKR in the powerplay.

In the 2022 T20 World Cup, Salt was part of the English team that won the title in Australia, but he had limited chances to play, appearing in only two matches. Now, as a strong and aggressive opener, the 27-year-old is likely to have a bigger role in England’s upcoming title defence in the West Indies and USA.

4. Moeen Ali

Moeen Ali, a versatile player, will be a key figure for England in the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies. He is one of England’s most experienced T20I cricketers. His skillful off-spin bowling will be crucial on the slow pitches there. Moeen Ali has played a lot in the West Indies and knows the conditions well.

In T20 cricket, Moeen Ali has a strike rate of 140.46, showing his ability to score quickly, especially towards the end of an innings. He has impressive overall stats with almost 6,500 runs and over 200 wickets in T20 matches. He has also won a couple of IPL titles and a T20 World Cup.

His skills suit the conditions in the West Indies perfectly. At 36 years old, approaching 37, Moeen Ali is determined to win another World Cup before retiring from international cricket.

5. Jonny Bairstow 

Jonny Bairstow, a key batsman for England, is heading to the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA after a strong performance for Punjab Kings in IPL 2024. He scored nearly 300 runs in just 11 innings at a very fast pace, with a strike rate of 152.82. Bairstow’s highlight was an unbeaten 108 runs off 48 balls against KKR, helping Punjab Kings achieve the highest successful run-chase in T20 history (262 runs with eight balls left).

Despite missing England’s victory in the 2022 World Cup in Australia, the 34-year-old Bairstow remains determined to maintain his excellent batting form and support his team’s defense of their title in the Caribbean this June.
