Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians played a high-scoring game on a batting-friendly pitch at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. In match 8 of the 2024 Indian Premier League season, SRH scored a record 277/3 in 20 overs, the highest team total in IPL history.
Mumbai Indians responded with 246/5, the highest score ever by a team batting second in an IPL match. For SRH, Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Heinrich Klaasen scored 62, 63, and 80* respectively. For MI, Tilak Varma was the top scorer with 64. The match saw a record 38 sixes, the most in any T20 match. Previously, the IPL record was 33 sixes, and the overall T20 record was 37 sixes.

1. 38 sixes – SRH vs MI (IPL)
SRH batters hit a total of 18 sixes against MI. Australia’s Head was in top form, hitting three sixes in just 24 balls, with a strike rate of 258.33. Abhishek scored a fifty in just 16 balls, the fastest for SRH in IPL history, and ended with 63 runs from 23 balls, including seven sixes. Aiden Markram scored an unbeaten 42 from 28 balls with one six, while Klaasen hit his second consecutive fifty, scoring 80* from 34 balls and hitting seven sixes. In total, SRH batters hit 18 sixes.
Mumbai responded by hitting 20 sixes, making it 38 sixes in the match. For MI, Rohit Sharma hit three sixes in his 12-ball 26. Ishan Kishan, the other opener, hit four sixes in a 13-ball 34, with a strike rate of 261.54. Naman Dhir hit two sixes in his 14-ball 30. Varma hit six sixes in his 64. Hardik Pandya (1), Tim David (3), and Romario Shepherd (1) also contributed with sixes.
2. 37 sixes – Balkh Legends v Kabul Zwanan (Afghanistan Premier League)
In a 2018 Afghanistan Premier League match between Balkh Legends and Kabul Zwanan, a total of 37 sixes were hit. Balkh Legends scored 244/7 in 20 overs, while Kabul Zwanan scored 223/7, losing by 21 runs.
For Balkh Legends, Chris Gayle hit 10 sixes and scored 80 runs. Dilshan Munaweera hit three sixes, Darwish Rasool hit five sixes in his 50-run inning, captain Mohammad Nabi hit three sixes in his 37 runs from 15 balls, and Mirwais Ashraf hit two sixes. In total, Balkh Legends hit 23 sixes.
Kabul Zwanan hit 14 sixes. Hazratullah Zazai hit seven sixes in his 62 runs from 17 balls. Shahidullah, Colin Ingram, and Rashid Khan each hit two sixes, and Luke Ronchi hit one six.
3. 37 sixes – Jamaica Tallawahs vs St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (Caribbean Premier League)
In the 2019 Caribbean Premier League (CPL), the match between Jamaica Tallawahs and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots was thrilling with lots of sixes. Jamaica scored 241/4 in 20 overs. Chris Gayle scored 116 runs, hitting 10 sixes. Chadwick Walton scored 73 from 36 balls, with 8 sixes. Andre Russell (2 sixes) and Shamar Springer (1 six) also contributed, making a total of 21 sixes for Jamaica.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots chased down the target, scoring 242/6 in 18.5 overs. They hit 16 sixes during the chase. Devon Thomas scored 71 from 40 balls with 3 sixes. Evin Lewis hit 6 sixes in his quick 53 from 18 balls. Laurie Evans added 41 runs from 20 balls with 4 sixes. Fabian Allen remained not out with 37 runs from 15 balls, hitting 2 sixes. Shamarh Brooks also contributed 27 runs with 1 six.

4. 36 sixes – Titans vs Knights (CSA T20 Challenge)
In the 2022 CSA T20 Challenge in South Africa, the Titans scored an impressive 271/3 in 20 overs. Dewald Brevis wowed the crowd in Potchefstroom with a stunning 162 runs off 57 balls, hitting 13 fours and 13 sixes with a strike rate of 284.21. Jivesham Pillay hit one six in his 52 runs, Donovan Ferreira hit two sixes in his 33 runs from 15 balls, and Dayyam Galliem hit one six. The Titans hit a total of 17 sixes.
The Knights scored 230/9 but lost the match by 41 runs. They hit 19 sixes, bringing the total number of sixes in the match to 36. Gihahn Cloette and Jacques Snyman hit five sixes between them in their 72-run opening partnership. Patrick Kruger scored 22 from 13 balls with two sixes, while Pite van Viljon (1 six), Gerald Coetzee (5 sixes), Migael Pretorius (3 sixes), and Issak Dikgale (3 sixes) also made valuable contributions.
5. 35 sixes – Jamaica Tallawahs vs Trinbago Knight Riders (Caribbean Premier League)
In the 2019 CPL, the Trinbago Knight Riders scored a huge 267/2 in 20 overs against the Tallawahs. They hit 17 sixes in their innings. Lendl Simmons scored 86 with 5 sixes, Sunil Narine made 20 with 1 six, Colin Munro remained not out with 96 off 50 balls and hit 8 sixes, and captain Kieron Pollard added 45* with 3 sixes.
In reply, the Tallawahs scored 226/5 in their 20 overs, hitting 18 sixes but falling short. Chris Gayle hit 2 sixes in his 39 runs from 24 balls. Glenn Phillips hit 4 sixes in his 62 runs.
