Injury Worries: Ben Stokes Might Miss First Test in Pakistan

Ben Stokes Might Miss First Test in Pakistan

England Test captain Ben Stokes might not be ready for the first Test against Pakistan next month. He is still recovering from a hamstring injury he got during The Hundred Men’s Competition.

Recovery Concerns

Although Stokes has been training with the Test team during the Sri Lanka series, he admitted he might not be fit for the opening Test starting on October 7.

The risk of re-injury is 50%, which is quite high,” Stokes told ESPNCricinfo.

Stokes’ Precautionary Approach

Stokes was seen practicing in the nets during the second Test, but he prefers to take extra time to heal rather than risk worsening the injury.

“I’d rather take an extra two weeks than risk making it worse and being out for a longer time. I’m making sure I do everything possible to be ready for the first Test,” Stokes said.

Team Updates

Ollie Pope has taken over for Stokes in his absence and has led the team to a 2-0 lead in the Sri Lanka series, with the final Test starting later this week.

England’s tour of Pakistan begins in early October, with the first Test scheduled in Multan on October 7. England had a successful tour of Pakistan in late 2022, winning all three Tests.
