England’s Mark Wood Out for the Year with Elbow Injury

England’s Mark Wood Out for the Year with Elbow Injury

England’s fast bowler, Mark Wood, has been ruled out for the remainder of 2024 due to an injury in his right elbow. Wood, who is 34 years old, had already missed two matches against Sri Lanka in a Test series because of a thigh injury.

Elbow Issues During West Indies Series

According to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Wood had been dealing with stiffness and pain in his elbow since playing against the West Indies earlier in the season. Despite this, he continued bowling during England’s match in Manchester, where the team secured a five-wicket win.

Future Plans and Recovery

Wood has faced several injuries throughout his career and will now focus on his rehabilitation with the ECB medical team. He will miss England’s upcoming series, including matches against Pakistan in October and New Zealand in December. The ECB remains hopeful that Wood will be fully fit by early 2025. If all goes well, he plans to return in time for England’s white-ball tour of India and the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan, which will take place in February 2025.
