Rishabh Pant is back in India’s Test squad for the first time since his car accident in December 2022. India has named their squad for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, but Mohammed Shami won’t be playing as he’s still recovering from ankle surgery.
Yash Dayal, a left-arm fast bowler, has earned his first-ever Test call-up. This selection seems to be preparing him for the important five-Test series in Australia later this year.
KL Rahul Back in Action
KL Rahul is also returning to the team after missing most of the England series due to injury. He was ruled out after just one match due to a quadriceps injury. Rahul recently performed well in the Duleep Trophy, scoring 37 and 57 in two innings for India A.
In the same match, Rishabh Pant played for India B, scoring 7 and 61 while also taking seven catches as the wicketkeeper.
Yash Dayal’s Strong Performance
Dayal also did well in the Duleep Trophy, taking three wickets in the fourth innings to help India B win comfortably. So far, he has played 24 first-class matches, taking 76 wickets at an average of 28.89.

Other Players in the Squad
Dhruv Jurel, who debuted against England and scored 190 runs in three Tests, is included as the second wicketkeeper. However, players like Rajat Patidar, KS Bharat, Devdutt Padikkal, Washington Sundar, and Mukesh Kumar were not selected this time.
The pace attack will be led by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, while India’s spin department includes R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav.
Test Match Schedule
The first Test against Bangladesh will be played in Chennai starting September 19, followed by the second Test in Kanpur from September 27. After the Test series, India will also play three T20Is.
