Indian pacer Barinder Sran has decided to retire from all forms of cricket. The 31-year-old left-arm bowler made his ODI debut under MS Dhoni’s captaincy in 2016. Sran shared his retirement news through an Instagram post on August 29, 2024.

  • ODI Debut: Sran debuted in One Day Internationals (ODIs) on January 12, 2016, taking 3 wickets in his first match.
  • T20I Debut: He also made his T20 International debut on June 20, 2016, against Zimbabwe, where he took 4 wickets for just 10 runs in his first game.
  • International Career: Sran played 6 ODIs, taking 7 wickets with an average of 38.42 and an economy rate of 5.34. He featured in 2 T20Is, with his last appearances in both formats coming in mid-2016.

In his Instagram post, Sran reflected on his journey from boxing to cricket, expressing gratitude for the experiences and opportunities he had. He mentioned:

“I look back at my cricketing journey with a heart full of gratitude. Cricket has given me incredible experiences and the honor of representing India in 2016. Though my international career was brief, I cherish the memories and am thankful for the support I received.”

IPL Career

Sran played for several IPL teams including Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Kings XI Punjab. In his IPL career, he took 18 wickets in 24 matches with an average of 42.05, an economy rate of 9.40, and a strike rate of 26.8. His last match was in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in February 2021.

Memorable Moments

One of Sran’s notable moments came in the IPL 2016 final. Playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, he dismissed Virat Kohli, preventing him from reaching a 1000-run season and helping his team win the IPL title by 8 runs.
