BCCI Punishes Hardik Pandya with Ban and Heavy Fine

MI captain Hardik Pandya was penalised Rs. 30 lakh and a one-man ban.

Hardik Pandya, the captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI), was fined Rs. 30 lakh for a slow over-rate during their IPL 2024 match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Wankhede Stadium. This was the third time MI had this issue this season. Because of this, Pandya is not only fined but also banned from the next match.

The rest of the MI team members, including the Impact Player, were each fined Rs. 12 lakh or half of their match fee, whichever amount was smaller.

In the match, Nicholas Pooran played exceptionally well for LSG, scoring 75 runs off just 28 balls. Despite a rain delay of 45 minutes, LSG managed to win by 18 runs. Rohit Sharma and Naman Dhir scored half-centuries for MI, but it wasn’t enough to secure a victory.

Pooran’s rapid half-century off 19 balls included eight sixes, making him the top six-hitter of the IPL 2024 with 36 sixes. LSG’s score jumped from 69/3 in 10 overs to over 200 runs thanks to Pooran’s performance.

With this loss, Mumbai Indians ended their season with only eight points from 14 matches, finishing last for the second time in three years. LSG ended with 14 points but missed the playoffs due to their inconsistent performance in some matches.

The final scores were: Lucknow Super Giants 214/6 in 20 overs (Nicholas Pooran 75, K.L. Rahul 55; Nuwan Thushara 3-28, Piyush Chawla 3-29) beat Mumbai Indians 196/6 in 20 overs (Rohit Sharma 68, Naman Dhir 62 not out; Ravi Bishnoi 2-37, Naveen-ul-Haq 2-50) by 18 runs.
