England’s Test cricket captain, Ben Stokes returns to the team for the upcoming tour of Pakistan in October. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) released a 17-member squad on Tuesday, confirming Stokes’ inclusion for the three-match series starting on October 7. The Pakistan Cricket Board will reveal the match venues later this week.
Stokes Back from Injury
Stokes had missed the recent series against Sri Lanka due to a hamstring injury he suffered while playing in The Hundred in August. He is currently recovering and will be fit to play in Pakistan.
Zak Crawley Also Makes a Comeback
Another player making his return is Zak Crawley, who has been out of action since July due to a broken finger. According to a statement from the ECB, Crawley is set to rejoin the squad after his recovery, along with Stokes.
New Faces and Experienced Players
Spinner Rehan Ahmed, who made his Test debut in Karachi during England’s last tour of Pakistan in December 2022, is also included in the squad. Veteran spinner Jack Leach, last seen in action in a Test match in India in January, is back in the team as well.
Josh Hull, who made his Test debut against Sri Lanka recently, will travel with the team, along with Brydon Carse and Jordan Cox, both of whom are uncapped in Test cricket.
Players from the 2022 Series Return
Eight members of England’s successful 2022 squad are returning, including Rehan Ahmed, Harry Brook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Jack Leach, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, and Ben Stokes.
