IPL Auction and Price
In the 2023 IPL auction, Cameron Green was bought by Mumbai Indians for a huge sum of INR 17.5 crore, making him the second most expensive overseas player in IPL auction history at the time. This also marked him as the most expensive player Mumbai Indians had ever acquired.
Cameron Green was a popular pick in the 2023 IPL auction, largely due to his explosive batting during three T20 matches against India where he batted at a strike rate of over 200.
However, in his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians, Green managed only five runs in the opening game against Royal Challengers Bangalore, dismissed by a yorker from Reece Topley. Despite the slow start, he showed his abilities in the following games. Throughout the season, he accumulated 452 runs in 16 innings, including a century and six wickets.
His most notable performance came against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 69th match of the season. Chasing 201 runs at Wankhede Stadium, Green smashed an unbeaten century off 47 balls with a strike rate exceeding 212, featuring eight boundaries and eight sixes. He also scored consecutive fifties against the Sunrisers and Punjab Kings, as well as a quick-fire 44 off 26 balls against Rajasthan Royals.
Move to Royal Challengers Bangalore
Despite his remarkable season, Mumbai Indians traded Cameron Green to Royal Challengers Bangalore before the 2024 IPL auction. RCB paid INR 17.5 crore, the same price at which Mumbai had initially purchased him.

In 2019, Green showcased his batting potential with unbeaten scores of 87 and 121, which earned him a promotion up the batting order.
Entry Into the Australian Team
His domestic success led to his national team debut on Australia’s 2020 tour of India. He played his first ODIs and Tests in December 2020, and soon after made his T20I debut in 2021. He was also part of the squad for the 2022 T20 World Cup, stepping in for injured Josh Inglis, and contributed significantly to Australia’s 2023 ODI World Cup win.
