A former Italian footballer claims Cristiano Ronaldo only cares about scoring goals and not being a team player.
Antonio Cassano, who used to play for Italy and Real Madrid, has made strong remarks about Cristiano Ronaldo. Cassano, who retired in 2017, said Ronaldo can score as many goals as he wants, but he “doesn’t know how to play football.” Cassano briefly played for Real Madrid from 2006 to 2008, leaving just a year before Ronaldo joined the club in a record-breaking transfer from Manchester United.
Ronaldo’s 900 Goals Milestone
Cristiano Ronaldo recently surpassed 900 goals for both his club and his country. He became Real Madrid’s all-time top scorer with an incredible 450 goals in 458 matches during his nine seasons in Spain. Despite these achievements, Cassano criticized Ronaldo on the podcast Viva El Futbol, saying, “Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t know how to play football.“
Cassano Prefers Other Players Over Ronaldo
Cassano explained that he considers players like Sergio Aguero, Robert Lewandowski, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Luis Suarez, and Ronaldo’s former Real Madrid teammate, Karim Benzema, to be better. According to Cassano, these players are better at connecting with their teammates during matches.
“He could score 3,000 goals, I don’t care. [Gonzalo] Higuain, [Sergio] Aguero, [Karim] Benzema, [Robert] Lewandowski, [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic, and [Luis] Suarez all knew how to work with their teams. They could do a lot of things that Ronaldo never focused on, as his main goal has always been just to score,” Cassano said.
Ronaldo’s Recent Performance with Al-Nassr
Ronaldo recently helped his team, Al-Nassr, start well under their new coach, Stefano Pioli. He scored the first goal in a 3-0 victory over Ettifaq. Ronaldo, who missed the previous game due to illness, scored from the penalty spot in the 33rd minute, making it his third goal of the season. Al-Nassr is now in fourth place, while Ettifaq, coached by Steven Gerrard, dropped to third.
