Faith kipyegon Shines in women’s 1500m at athlos NYC. This event took place on Thursday, where Kipyegon continued her winning streak after a dominant performance in Paris 2024. Brittany Brown surprised everyone by beating Paris 200-meter gold medalist Gabby Thomas.
Faith Kipyegon Shines at Athlos NYC
Athlos was launched by entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian to increase the popularity of women’s track events. Crowds packed New York’s Icahn Stadium, creating a festive vibe to celebrate the end of the athletics season.
Winners at the Athlos NYC event took home $60,000 in prize money, which is twice the amount given at the Diamond League finale. In addition to the cash, first-place winners also received a custom-designed Tiffany crown.
Kipyegon’s Record-Setting Performance
Faith Kipyegon, who recently won her third consecutive Olympic title in Paris, cemented her status as the queen of the 1,500 meters by finishing in 4 minutes, 4.79 seconds. Ethiopian runner Diribe Welteji came in second with a time of 4:05.58, while Kenyan Susan Ejore-Sanders secured third place at 4:06.25.

Brittany Brown’s Surprise Win
American runner Gabby Thomas lost steam in the final 50 meters of her race, allowing Brittany Brown to take first place by finishing in 22.18 seconds, just three hundredths of a second ahead of Thomas.
Brown expressed her excitement, saying, “I feel like this sport is changing and growing – and I’m thrilled to be part of it. This is a brand-new event, and we’re trying something new.”
Other Event Highlights
In the 100 meters, Marie Josee Ta Lou-Smith from Ivory Coast took the victory with a time of 10.98 seconds, with Brittany Brown coming in second at 11.05. Olympic 400-meter champion Marileidy Paulino maintained her winning streak by finishing first in 49.59. Meanwhile, Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn won the 100-meter hurdles in 12.36, less than two weeks after her Diamond League finale win.

Camacho-Quinn shared her excitement about the event, telling the crowd, “It’s all about women, and we’re putting on an incredible show.”
In the 800 meters, Ethiopian Tsige Duguma, who won a silver medal in Paris, edged out Kenyan Mary Moraa to finish first with a time of 1:57.43.
