Gautam Gambhir Criticizes RCB Star Says He Hasn’t Achieved Anything in IPL

Gautam Gambhir said that Hardik Pandya, the all-rounder for the Indian cricket team, is facing a lot of criticism for his performance as the captain of Mumbai Indians in the ongoing IPL 2024. Many fans were unhappy when the MI management chose him as the captain instead of Rohit Sharma. The situation worsened as MI managed to win only 4 out of their 13 matches. Hardik’s leadership has been questioned by former cricketers like Kevin Pietersen from England and AB de Villiers from South Africa.

Gautam Gambhir, a former Indian batter and current mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders, defended Hardik against the heavy criticism. Gambhir pointed out that both Pietersen and De Villiers did not have great records as captains themselves. He specifically mentioned De Villiers’ lack of success in winning an IPL title with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), despite his individual scores.

Gambhir said, “What were their performances like as captains? I don’t think Kevin Pietersen or AB de Villiers had any notable achievements in their careers as leaders. If you look at their records, they are worse than many other captains. De Villiers hasn’t achieved anything significant in the IPL from a team perspective, whereas Hardik Pandya is an IPL-winning captain. So, comparisons should be fair.”

Kolkata Knight Riders have secured their spot in the IPL 2024 playoffs, while RCB still has a chance to make it to the top 4. For RCB to remain in contention, they need to win their final league game against Chennai Super Kings and hope that other results also go in their favor.
