The Gujarat Titans are out of the IPL 2024 playoffs after their game against Kolkata Knight Riders was stopped by rain at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday. This means GT can only get a maximum of 13 points if they win their last match, which isn’t enough to reach the Top 4. Meanwhile IPL KKR now have 19 points from 13 matches, ensuring they finish in the Top 2. With Gujarat Titans eliminated, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings are still in the runing for the playoffs and now have one less team to compete with. Here’s how the rain-affected match has influenced the IPL 2024 playoff race for these four teams.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru

RCB have won their last five matches. To make it to the playoffs, they need to win against Chennai Super Kings in their final game. If they win, they’ll have 14 points. But whether they make it depends on their Net Run Rate (NRR). RCB’s best chance is if Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) win one of their remaining matches or lose both. Even if RCB barely wins against

Chennai Super Kings

CSK, they could still qualify if SRH and LSG lose both matches. If SRH and LSG each win one match, RCB’s NRR needs to be good, so they must win big against CSK. But if SRH loses both their matches, RCB can qualify with a big win over CSK, as both teams will then have 14 points. If CSK beats RCB, they’ll go straight to the playoffs. But even if they lose, they still have a chance. If LSG loses both their games, CSK will go through with 14 points. Even if LSG wins one, CSK is likely to go through because of their better Net Run Rate. If LSG wins both games and SRH loses both of theirs, then if CSK loses to RCB, the last playoff spot will be decided based on Net Run Rate between CSK, SRH, and RCB.

Lucknow Super Giants

To make it to the playoffs, LSG must win their last two games, which would give them 16 points. If CSK beats RCB and SRH wins at least one of their last two matches, all three teams could have 16 points. But LSG might not qualify because of their lower NRR. If SRH wins both their matches and CSK loses to RCB, LSG will secure the No. 4 spot. If SRH loses both matches, LSG can still qualify by winning their remaining games, no matter what happens between CSK and RCB.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Victories in the remaining two matches will guarantee a playoff spot for SRH. If they lose one of their matches and  If SRH lose both of their remaining matches and LSG win their two games, the Pat Cummins-led side will have to depend on the result of the game between RCB and CSK. However, if CSK lose to RCB, the final playoff spot will be decided by NRR.
