Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has suggested that Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal should be the opening batsmen for India in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. The tournament is scheduled to take place in the West Indies and the USA from June 1 to June 29. Jaffer shared his thoughts on his official X account, emphasizing the importance of this new opening pair.
Suggested Batting Order for India
Jaffer proposed that Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav should bat at the third and fourth positions, respectively. He praised Rohit Sharma’s ability to handle spin, indicating that Rohit should not have any trouble batting lower down the order. According to Jaffer, this batting order would give India a strong start and flexibility depending on the match situation.
India’s T20 World Cup Schedule
India will kick off their T20 World Cup campaign on June 5 against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. One of the most anticipated matches is against Pakistan on June 9. Following this, India will play against the USA on June 12 and Canada on June 15 to complete their Group A matches.
India’s Quest for ICC Trophy
India aims to end its ICC trophy drought, having last won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. Despite reaching the finals and semifinals in various ICC tournaments since then, the team has not secured a major trophy. The T20 World Cup 2024 presents an opportunity for India to win their first T20 World Cup title since their victory in the inaugural edition in 2007. In the previous T20 World Cup in 2022, India was knocked out by England in the semifinals.
