After an exciting journey of over two months, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) emerged victorious in the IPL 2024. They secured a commanding eight-wicket win against the formidable Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who had a great season with the bat. In the final match,Kolkata Knight Riders bowlers were outstanding, dismissing SRH for just 113 runs. KKR then chased down the target in just 10.3 overs, winning their third IPL trophy.

Shreyas Iyer’s Iconic Celebration

After the victory, KKR captain Shreyas Iyer received the trophy from BCCI president Roger Binny and secretary Jay Shah. To celebrate, Iyer recreated a famous pose by football star Lionel Messi, reminiscent of Messi’s celebration after Argentina won the FIFA World Cup in December 2022 in Qatar. This gesture highlighted the joy and pride Iyer felt in leading his team to triumph.

KKR’s Dominant Performance

Throughout the season, KKR’s bowling unit was exceptional, and they showcased their skills in the final by bowling out SRH for 113 runs, the lowest ever score in an IPL final. Venkatesh Iyer, with an unbeaten 52, helped KKR chase the target swiftly, completing the win in just 10.3 overs. This victory was especially sweet for Shreyas Iyer, who had faced tough times in the past few months but led his team to glory with determination and skill.

Captain Shreyas Iyer’s Reflections

Reflecting on the win, Shreyas Iyer expressed his immense pride in his team. “This is what we demanded from the team and every individual. They stood up to the right occasion and the feeling is hard to express. We played like invincibles throughout the season. There’s so much to cherish right now. It is pleasing, the performance has been flawless throughout. I am running out of words right now. We have been tremendous from game one, we stepped up today,” he said.

Iyer also praised SRH’s performance throughout the season and acknowledged the favorable conditions for his team in the final. “All we demanded from ourselves was to back each other whatever the situation is. The game could have gone either way. They have been playing phenomenal cricket – SRH – throughout the season. We were lucky to bowl first and every situation went in our favor. Thanks to SRH for the way they played,” he added.
