Lungi Ngidi Back in Action for South Africa’s UAE Tour

Lungi Ngidi has recovered from a right calf injury and is back in the South Africa squad for the upcoming matches. New players Jason Smith, Nqaba Peter, and Amdile Simelane have also been selected for the first time for South Africa’s series against Afghanistan and Ireland in the UAE.

Series Details

South Africa will play three ODIs against Afghanistan starting September 18 in Sharjah. This will be followed by two T20Is and three ODIs against Ireland, starting September 27 in Abu Dhabi.

Player Debuts and Performances

Nqaba Peter and Jason Smith made their T20I debuts earlier this year. Peter has played two T20Is and taken three wickets. Smith has played one game and scored six runs.
Amdile Simelane is getting his first call-up to the international team. The 21-year-old all-rounder showed promise during the South Africa Emerging Tour to Zimbabwe and in matches with South Africa A.

Ngidi’s Return

Pacer Lungi Ngidi, who missed the T20I series against the West Indies in August due to his injury, is now included in all three squads.

Coach’s Statement

Head coach Rob Walter said the upcoming tours will give younger players valuable international experience and help build a larger pool of players for future ICC tournaments, including the 2027 World Cup.
