Manchester City Win League Cup After Tough Arsenal Match

Manchester City Win League Cup After Tough Arsenal Match

Manchester City played just two days after a heated Premier League game against Arsenal. Despite making many changes to their lineup, they managed to beat second-tier Watford 2-1 in the English League Cup. City, known for their strong performances under manager Pep Guardiola, who won the League Cup four years in a row starting in 2018, fielded a less experienced team this time as Guardiola stated he won’t focus much on this competition this season.

Key Moments from the Match

  • First-Half Goals: Jeremy Doku and Matheus Nunes scored first-half goals at the Etihad Stadium, securing City’s spot in the next round.
  • Guardiola’s Approach: Guardiola mentioned using the League Cup games to give playtime to some fringe players and not waste too much energy on this competition.

  • Aston Villa and Leicester’s Wins: Aston Villa won 2-1 against third-tier Wycombe, while Leicester won 3-0 on penalties after a goalless draw with Walsall.

Chelsea Rotates, Nkunku Shines

Chelsea made 11 changes from their last game and still dominated. Nkunku scored twice in the first 15 minutes and added a third goal in the 75th minute. Pedro Neto also scored his first goal for Chelsea in between an own-goal from the opponent.

Villa and Leicester Also Secure Wins

  • Aston Villa: Jhon Durán continued his strong season by scoring Villa’s second goal, a penalty, adding to Emi Buendía’s opener. The 20-year-old has now scored four goals in five league games, all as a substitute.
  • Leicester vs. Walsall: Leicester won their match on penalties after a 0-0 draw, easily converting all three of their spot kicks while Walsall missed their first three attempts.

The League Cup’s last 32 matches are spread across two weeks to fit around the expanded schedules of the Champions League and Europa League, with Liverpool and Arsenal set to play next.
