Punjab Kings’ long playoff wait continues due to leadership inconsistency, says former coach Tom Moody, praising young IPL talents.

The Punjab Kings haven’t made it to the playoffs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for 10 years. Tom Moody, who was their first coach, says the reason is the team’s unstable leadership. They’ve had 15 different captains in 17 seasons, which causes confusion on and off the field. Moody, now a cricket expert and commentator for IPL 2024, shared this in an interview.

Moody led Punjab to the playoffs in 2008, but since then, they’ve struggled. He later coached the Sunrisers Hyderabad for seven seasons, achieving great success. He believes consistent leadership is vital for a team’s performance.

Despite Punjab’s struggles, Moody is optimistic about the IPL’s young talent. He praised players like Riyan Parag and Abhishek Porel, who have shown promise in the current IPL season. Parag, from the Rajasthan team, has impressed despite being young. Porel, playing for the Delhi Capitals, has also performed well. Moody sees the IPL as a platform for both Indian and overseas players to showcase their skills. He believes it’s the best T20 tournament globally and is excited about the future of cricket.
