Rahul Dravid’s Heated Moment at the Press Conference
During a press conference ahead of India’s T20 World Cup 2024 match against Afghanistan, India head coach Rahul Dravid faced a difficult question about his past performances in Barbados. Dravid, who had a distinguished career as a player, didn’t appreciate being reminded of his less-than-stellar stats at the venue. The question brought back bitter memories, and Dravid’s reaction showed his frustration.
Dravid’s Response to the Reporter
When the reporter asked Dravid about his poor performance in the 1997 Test match in Barbados, Dravid sarcastically thanked the reporter for the reminder. “Geez, thanks a lot buddy! I have had some other decent memories here as well,” he responded. The reporter then asked if Dravid saw this as an opportunity to make better memories, to which Dravid replied, “God man! I am not trying to make new anything man!”
Reflecting on the 1997 Test Match
The 1997 Test match in Barbados was a challenging one for Dravid, where he scored 78 and 2 runs, and India lost by 38 runs. Now, as the coach of the Indian team, Dravid emphasized that he doesn’t dwell on past performances. He made it clear that his focus is on the current task and not on events from over 25 years ago. “I move on from things very quickly. That’s one of my things. I don’t look back on things,” Dravid said.
Dravid’s Focus on the Present
Dravid stressed that he doesn’t consider his past as a player when coaching the team. He is entirely focused on the present and on achieving good results in upcoming matches. “I don’t think of myself much as a player anymore. Yeah, just move on. Focus on tomorrow, and try and get a good result tomorrow,” he stated. Dravid’s approach is to stay in the moment and not let past events affect his current mindset or performance as a coach.
