Rahul Dravid to Become Rajasthan Royals Head Coach

Rahul Dravid is set to return to coaching, and he has chosen the Indian Premier League (IPL) for his comeback. After leading the Indian cricket team to victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup, Dravid has reportedly signed a deal with Rajasthan Royals, his former IPL team. Dravid previously captained the Royals in 2012 and 2013 and later served as their team director and mentor in 2014 and 2015.

Dravid’s Break After the T20 World Cup

After guiding India to the 2024 T20 World Cup title, Dravid took a break from coaching. During this time, he was seen enjoying events at the Paris Olympics. Now, according to a report from ESPNcricinfo, Dravid has signed a contract with Rajasthan Royals and has started planning for the next IPL season, including player retention strategies ahead of the 2025 auction.

Dravid’s Successful Coaching Career with India

Dravid had a successful stint as the head coach of Team India. Under his leadership, India reached the finals of the 2023 World Test Championship and the 2023 ODI World Cup. His tenure ended on a high note when India won the 2024 T20 World Cup in Barbados, breaking their long drought of ICC titles.

Possible Reunion with Vikram Rathour

The report also hints that Dravid might reunite with Vikram Rathour, India’s former batting coach, as part of his coaching staff.

Sanju Samson Reunion at Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals have made the playoffs twice in the last three IPL seasons under Kumar Sangakkara, who also serves as the franchise’s director of cricket operations. Dravid is expected to replace Sangakkara as the head coach, but the Sri Lankan legend will still be involved with the franchise, managing their other teams in different leagues like Paarl Royals in SA20 and Barbados Royals in CPL.

Rajasthan Royals’ Quest for Another Title

Rajasthan Royals have not won an IPL title since their first victory in 2008. They came close in 2022 but lost the final to Gujarat Titans. The team hopes that Dravid can lead them to another title, just as he did with the Indian team earlier this year. Dravid will also be reunited with Sanju Samson, who is likely to be retained as the team’s captain for the upcoming season.
