Rajasthan Royals Captain Sanju Samson Penalized by BCCI, Fined in Ongoing Dismissal Controversy

The BCCI fined Rajasthan Royals’ skipper, Sanju Samson, for arguing with on-field umpires during the IPL 2024 match against Delhi Capitals. This happened after controversy arose over Samson’s dismissal. He was caught by Shai Hope in the deep, but the fielder was too close to the stumps. Even though the third umpire ruled in favor of Delhi Capitals, Samson disagreed and argued with the match officials. Replays showed the fielder was near the ropes, dividing fans and experts.

The official statement declared, “Sanju Samson, Captain of Rajasthan Royals, received a 30% fine for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 56 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on May 07, 2024.”

Samson broke a rule, accepted punishment in IPL.

The statement clarified, “Samson breached a Level 1 offense under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He confessed to the violation and accepted the Match Referee’s punishment. The Match Referee’s decision is final and binding for Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct.”

The IPL 2024 match between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals on Tuesday sparked a huge controversy over Shai Hope’s catch to dismiss Sanju Samson. Sanju Samson, who was batting on 86, seemed to be in good form as he hit DC pacer Mukesh Kumar straight down the ground. However, Hope, positioned at long-on, caught the ball, but it appeared that he was too close to the boundary ropes. The third umpire ruled in favor of DC, which shocked the RR camp. Sanju got into a heated discussion with the umpires. Former India batter Navjot Singh Sidhu claimed that the fielder touched the boundary rope twice during the catch and used a ‘fly in the milk’ analogy to explain the situation.
