Rajasthan Royals: The Women’s Caribbean Premier League 2024 has started and the very first match of the season was very exciting, in which defending champions Barbados Royals started their campaign with a win by defeating Guyana Amazon Warriors by 1 wicket. Playing first, Guyana Amazon Warriors scored 118/9 in 20 overs, in response, Barbados Royals scored 119/9 in 19.5 overs. Barbados team captain Hayley Matthews (61* and 2/19 off 58 balls) was named Player of the Match.

Rajasthan Royals: Guyana team’s batting failed to perform well

Losing the toss and batting first, Guyana Amazon Warriors did not have a special start and the team lost 2 wickets in the powerplay itself for a score of 33. Opener Natasha McLean scored 11 and captain Lauren Winfield-Hill scored 10. Erin Burns contributed 15 runs. Stafanie Taylor took charge for some time but she could not score runs quickly and she played an innings of 38 runs in 36 balls. Shemaine Campbelle also contributed 16 runs. However, all the batsmen after this could not show anything special and due to this the Guyana team was not able to score as expected. Aaliyah Allen took the maximum three wickets for Barbados Royals.

Hayley Matthews gave victory to Barbados Royals by remaining unbeaten till the end

Chasing the target, Barbados Royals got a start of 29 runs but after this the team lost 4 important wickets till the score of 50. Georgia Redmayne scored 6 and Rashada Williams scored 2 runs, while Aaliyah Allen contributed 5 and Laura Harris contributed 4 runs. Standing at one end, Hayley Matthews was supported by Kiana Joseph and both of them took the score to 92. Kiana played an innings of 24 runs with the help of three fours in 20 balls. From here, wickets fell quickly and the score became 115/9 but Matthews succeeded in making her team win in the last over. She scored an unbeaten 61 runs with the help of seven fours in 58 balls. Shabnim Ismail took four wickets for Guyana Amazon Warriors.
