Report Rahul Dravid Declined Extension as Test Coach Reasons Revealed

The Board of Control for Cricket in India BCCI is searching for a new head coach for the Indian men’s cricket team. Rahul Dravid‘s contract is ending after the T20 World Cup 2024. The board has started looking for new applicants, but Dravid can also apply if he wants. However, it’s reported that Dravid doesn’t want to continue as the coach after the T20 World Cup.

A report in Sportstar says that Dravid has already decided not to reapply for the role. Even though some senior players asked him to stay as India’s Test team coach for another year, he declined. Dravid had decided earlier that he wouldn’t extend his time as the head coach after the ODI World Cup 2023.

If Dravid had stayed as India’s Test coach, the BCCI might have hired coaches specialized in different formats. But now, they won’t.

Even though the search for the new coach just started, people are speculating a lot about VVS Laxman’s name. Laxman has led the team as head coach when Dravid wasn’t there a few times. But reports say he might not be among the top choices for the permanent head coach position.

The BCCI is also thinking about some foreign coaches. Jay Shah, the board’s secretary, said that they might consider overseas options too.

Stephen Fleming and Ricky Ponting, currently coaching IPL teams Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals, are among the top choices. Justin Langer, the coach of Lucknow Super Giants, also showed interest in coaching the Indian team.
