Rohit Sharma Snubbed as Captain in CA’s T20 World Cup XI
Ahead of the T20 World Cup final between India and South Africa, Cricket Australia (CA) announced their team of the tournament. Surprisingly, India’s skipper Rohit Sharma was not chosen as the captain of this XI. The Indian team, set to face South Africa in the final on Saturday in Barbados, had a strong run, defeating England and Afghanistan in the semi-finals. Afghanistan’s remarkable journey, especially their victory over Australia in the Super 8 stage, was a highlight of the tournament, knocking out the former champions.
Selection of Openers and Middle-Order
Cricket Australia’s XI featured Rohit Sharma and Australian left-hander Travis Head as the openers. Although Rohit Sharma was included, he was not given the captaincy role. In the middle-order, West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran, USA’s Aaron Jones, Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, and India’s Hardik Pandya were selected. These players were pivotal in their teams’ performances throughout the tournament.
Rashid Khan as Captain
CA chose Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan as the captain of their T20 World Cup XI. Rashid played a crucial role in leading Afghanistan to the semi-finals, taking 14 wickets in eight matches with an impressive economy rate of 6.17. His leadership and performance were key reasons for his selection as the captain over Rohit Sharma.
Bowlers in the XI
The bowling lineup included Bangladesh’s spinner Rishad Hossain, who had a notable campaign with 14 wickets in seven matches. The pace attack featured India’s Jasprit Bumrah, South Africa’s Anrich Nortje, and Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqi. Farooqi ended his tournament with 17 wickets, making him the highest wicket-taker so far. However, India’s Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh still have a chance to surpass this record in the final.
