Sherfane Rutherford Withdraws from CPL 2024

Sherfane Rutherford, who played four matches for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots this season, has withdrawn from the CPL 2024 due to personal reasons. This move comes midway through their last home game against Antigua and Barbuda Falcons. The Patriots will announce a replacement for Rutherford soon.

Rutherford, 26, had scored 35 runs at a strike rate of 194.44 in his four games this season. With him out, Dominic Drakes, a primarily bowling allrounder, took the No. 7 batting spot against the Falcons on Sunday. The Patriots are currently at the bottom of the CPL 2024 points table, having won only one of six matches.

Recent Struggles and Injuries for Patriots

The Patriots brought in Wanindu Hasaranga, who took four wickets, but they failed to defend 153 runs on a difficult pitch on Sunday. They have lost 11 consecutive games at Basseterre since winning the CPL 2021 at home.

Patriots’ captain Andre Fletcher expressed his disappointment after the game, apologizing to the home crowd and promising to give their best in the remaining four matches.

Additionally, allrounder Kyle Mayers is a doubt due to a possible hamstring injury, while South African batter Rilee Rossouw has returned from a calf injury. Before the season, the Patriots had already lost Zimbabwe allrounder Sikandar Raza to injury, and Hasaranga and Tabraiz Shamsi have also been unavailable at different times.
