S Sreesanth Reveals His Ideal India XI for T20 World Cup

Two-time World Cup winner S Sreesanth has shared his preferred playing XI for India’s first match in the T20 World Cup against Ireland on June 5. Sreesanth, who was part of India’s winning teams in the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup, has surprisingly left out wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson and all-rounder Shivam Dube from his lineup. Instead, he supports youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal to open the innings alongside skipper Rohit Sharma, with Virat Kohli slated to bat at No. 3.

Key Exclusions from Sreesanth’s XI

Sreesanth’s selection raised eyebrows due to the absence of Samson and Dube. Despite their notable performances, they didn’t make the cut in his lineup. Sreesanth has opted for a combination of experienced and young players. He included two frontline spinners, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, highlighting the importance of spin in the T20 format. Arshdeep Singh was chosen to partner with Jasprit Bumrah in the pace department, with Hardik Pandya serving as a backup pacer.

Performance in the Warm-Up Game Against Bangladesh

India delivered a dominant performance against Bangladesh in their only warm-up game, securing a 60-run victory. During this match, Samson opened the innings with Rohit Sharma, while Jaiswal didn’t get to bat. Samson managed only one run before being dismissed by Shoriful Islam. Rishabh Pant made a remarkable return to the team after an 18-month hiatus, showcasing his batting prowess. Hardik Pandya also contributed with a powerful cameo, helping to set up a convincing win for India.

India’s Batting Lineup Still in Flux

Following the win against Bangladesh, skipper Rohit Sharma mentioned that the team hasn’t yet finalized their batting lineup for the T20 World Cup. This suggests that while Sreesanth’s XI provides a strong foundation, there might still be adjustments based on performance and strategy. The upcoming matches will be crucial for the team to settle on the best combination to aim for another World Cup triumph.
