Security Concerns Cancel RCB’s Practice Session
As the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) prepare for the IPL 2024 Eliminator match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR), a security issue forced them to cancel their only practice session before the game. The concern was primarily about the safety of star player Virat Kohli. RCB was scheduled to practice at the Gujarat College Ground in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, but the session was called off due to the security threat. The franchise also decided not to hold a press conference on the eve of the match, leaving many puzzled by the sudden change in plans.
Tight Security Measures for the IPL 2024 Eliminator
Reports from Anandabazaar Patrika indicated that the Gujarat Police had hinted the cancellation was due to potential terrorist activity targeting Virat Kohli. Four suspects were arrested in Ahmedabad, leading to heightened security alerts. Upon learning about the arrests, Kohli prioritized his safety, and RCB decided to cancel all commitments for the day. In contrast, Rajasthan Royals proceeded with their practice as planned.
Police officer Vijay Singha Jwala confirmed the prioritization of Kohli’s security, highlighting his status as a national treasure. Security was tightened at RCB’s team hotel, barring even IPL-accredited members from entry. Meanwhile, a ‘green corridor’ was created to ensure the safe passage of the Rajasthan Royals to the training ground. Some players, including R Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Riyan Parag, chose to skip practice and stay at the hotel, while skipper Sanju Samson arrived at the ground later.
Strict security measures are expected for the IPL 2024 Eliminator match between RCB and RR, ensuring the safety of all players and staff involved.
