Team India Arrives in New York for T20 World Cup 2024

Team India after reaching USA ahead of T20 World Cup 2024.

The first group of Indian cricket players has reached New York for the T20 World Cup 2024. Key players including captain Rohit Sharma, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, and top T20I batsman Suryakumar Yadav left for the United States on Saturday. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video on social media showing the players arriving at the New York airport and boarding the team bus. The post read, “Touchdown New York! #TeamIndia have arrived for the #T20WorldCup.”

India’s T20 World Cup Schedule

India’s campaign in the T20 World Cup starts on June 5 with a match against Ireland at the new Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. The much-anticipated match against Pakistan is scheduled for June 9. Following this, India will play against the USA on June 12 and Canada on June 15 to complete their Group A matches.

India’s Quest for an ICC Trophy

India aims to end its ICC trophy drought, having last won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. Since then, India has come close several times, reaching the final of the 50-over World Cup in 2023, the semifinals in 2015 and 2019, and the finals of the ICC World Test Championship in 2021 and 2023. In T20 World Cups, India reached the final in 2014 and the semifinals in 2016 and 2022, but hasn’t secured a major ICC trophy.

The Squad and Reserves for the Tournament

India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 includes: Rohit Sharma (C), Hardik Pandya (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammad Siraj. The reserves are Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan. The team hopes to capture their first T20 World Cup title since the inaugural tournament in 2007. In the last edition in 2022, India was eliminated by England in the semifinals.
