Taking a hat-trick in T20 cricket, which is known for high scores and fast action, is a great achievement. It shows a bowler’s skill and can change the game, especially if it happens during a big event like the T20 World Cups.

So far, there have been nine hat-tricks in T20 World Cup matches, starting with Brett Lee’s first one in the 2007 tournament. To celebrate this rare feat, we at OneCricket are looking back at each hat-trick in the history of this prestigious tournament.

Here is the list of all hat-tricks in T20 World Cup matches from 2007 to 2024:

Brett Lee- AUS vs BAN in 2007 T20 World Cup

Brett Lee achieved something amazing in the T20 World Cup in 2007. He took three wickets in a row during a game against Bangladesh in Cape Town. He got Shakib Al Hasan, Mashrafe Mortaza, and Alok Kapali out towards the end of the match. Lee ended with figures of 3 wickets for 27 runs, helping his team win the match.

Curtis Campher- IRE vs NED in 2021 T20 World Cup

Irish fast bowler Curtis Campher got the second hat-trick ever in T20 World Cups. He did this in 2021 against Netherlands in Abu Dhabi. He also did something unique: he took four wickets in a row, which no one else has done in the tournament’s history.

Campher finished his four overs with impressive figures of 4 wickets for 26 runs and was awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ title.

Wanindu Hasaranga- SL vs SA in 2021 T20 World Cup

A few weeks after Curtis Campher’s achievement, Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga made history in the T20 World Cup. He became the first spinner ever to take three wickets in a row in the tournament. This happened in October 2021 against a strong South African team in Sharjah. Hasaranga dismissed Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma, and Dwaine Pretorius, ending with figures of 3-20. Despite his great performance, Sri Lanka lost the match by four wickets.

Kagiso Rabada- SA vs ENG in 2021 T20 World Cup

South African bowler Kagiso Rabada got three wickets in a row in the 2021 T20 World Cup. He took out Chris Woakes, Eoin Morgan, and Chris Jordan in the last over of the match against England in Sharjah. Rabada’s superb bowling helped South Africa win by 10 runs in a close game.

Karthik Meiyappan- UAE vs SL in 2022 T20 World Cup

Karthik Meiyappan, who was born in India and plays for the UAE cricket team, achieved a hat-trick against Sri Lanka at Geelong in the first round of the 2022 T20 World Cup. He became the first cricketer from an associate nation to accomplish this rare feat on such a big stage. Despite his impressive bowling performance where he took three wickets for 19 runs, Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka stole the spotlight with his innings of 74 runs off 60 balls, helping Sri Lanka win the match.

Josh Little- IRE vs NZ in 2022 T20 World Cup

Young Irish fast bowler Josh Little took the wickets of Kane Williamson, James Neesham, and Mitchell Santner in quick succession at the end of the match during the 2022 T20 World Cup Group 1 game between Ireland and New Zealand at Adelaide Oval.

Pat Cummins- AUS vs BAN in 2024 T20 World Cup

Pat Cummins achieved something special in cricket. He became only the second Australian and the seventh cricketer overall to take a hat-trick in the men’s T20 World Cup. He did this during a match against Bangladesh in Antigua, in the Super Eight stage of the 2024 tournament. Cummins took three wickets in a row in the final overs of the game, dismissing Mahmudullah, Mahedi Hasan, and Towhid Hridoy. After Australia won by 28 runs using the DLS method, Cummins was named the ‘Player of the Match’ for his excellent bowling performance, where he finished with figures of 3 wickets for 29 runs.

Pat Cummins- AUS vs AFG in 2024 T20 World Cup

Just a few days after his great performance against Bangladesh, Pat Cummins did it again. He took three wickets in a row in a match against Afghanistan in Kingstown, even though his team lost. Cummins, who is the Australian captain, finished with figures of 3 wickets for 28 runs. 

Chris Jordan- ENG vs USA in 2024 T20 World Cup

England’s fast bowler Chris Jordan quickly dismissed the last few USA batsmen in just one over during match 49 of the 2024 T20 World Cup at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown on June 23. He was given the task of bowling the second last over of the USA’s innings. Despite being 35 years old, he took four wickets in just five balls, getting three wickets in a row. He finished with impressive figures of 4 wickets for 10 runs in 2.5 overs, helping England win the match.
