Top 5 Best Bowlers in the Big Bash League

Top 5 Best Bowlers in the Big Bash League

Big Bash League has begun with a bang, featuring plenty of runs and powerful hits. However, the bowlers often go unnoticed in Twenty20 cricket, despite their ability to stay calm under pressure when the ball is frequently sent to the boundary.

Here are the top five best bowlers in the BBL so far.

5. Andrew Tye

Andrew Tye best bowlers

Andrew Tye emerged as a surprising standout in the 2015 Big Bash League (BBL), playing a key role in the Perth Scorchers’ push for the top spot. The 28-year-old medium pacer, previously little-known, has been both economical and effective, boasting a 6.50 economy rate from 18 overs and claiming seven wickets.

But where did he come from? After years of playing in various second XIs, including stints with Durham, Northamptonshire, and Somerset in the UK, Tye’s persistence was rewarded when he finally broke into Perth’s limited-overs team in the previous BBL season.

4. Adam Zampa

After five matches, the Adelaide Strikers are leading the competition, and a key factor has been Adam Zampa’s impressive form.

The leg-spinner, often compared to Shane Warne, has maintained his calm and achieved the lowest economy rate among bowlers who have bowled at least 15 overs.

Though only 22 years old and not known for spinning the ball much, Zampa has still managed to take six wickets, proving he’s more than just a filler in the team.

3. Brett Lee

Brett Lee best bowlers

Though Brett Lee is now considered a veteran, at 38 years old, he remains a bowler that few batsmen like facing. The Australian has caused significant damage in this year’s tournament.

With 76 Test matches under his belt, Lee has already taken seven wickets, including a three-wicket haul against Hobart, helping the Sydney Sixers compete for the top spot in the table.

What’s equally impressive is his economy rate. Drawing on his vast experience, Lee has managed to keep his runs conceded to an average of just 6.70 per over from the 20 overs he has bowled so far.

2. Jason Behrendorff

Jason Behrendorff best bowlers

With only three matches remaining, Jason Behrendorff, alongside Andrew Tye, has played a crucial role in securing Perth Scorchers’ spot in the semi-finals through his precise bowling and key wickets.

The left-arm pacer made an immediate impact by taking four wickets against Adelaide in the opening match and has consistently delivered strong performances, including an economical four-over spell conceding just 17 runs against the Sydney Sixers.

At 24 years old, Behrendorff is more than just a rising star. After finishing as the second-highest wicket-taker in the 2013-14 Sheffield Shield season, he earned a spot in the Australian A squad, with high expectations for his future.

1. John Hastings

best bowlers

John Hastings might be a late bloomer, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he plays a crucial role in the 2015 Ashes this summer. He’s the kind of cricketer any team would want on their side.

Known for his heavy seam bowling, Hastings has made remarkable progress in recent years and has emerged as the standout bowler in this year’s BBL. His best performance so far was taking 3 wickets for 24 runs against Hobart, especially impressive as most other bowlers were getting hit all over the park. At 29, Hastings leads the league with 10 wickets and has yet to finish a game without taking a wicket.

Add in his powerful hitting lower down the order, and if Hastings continues to make headlines in the coming months, it’s not far-fetched to think he might secure a spot on the flight to London in July.
