The Indian cricket team is enjoying a rare month-long break after their ODI series against Sri Lanka. On Wednesday, the BCCI revealed the squads for the first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024-25, featuring several prominent Indian players.
The tournament, starting September 5, will have four teams: India A, B, C, and D. Despite the break, the BCCI has rested certain senior players, leaving some big names absent from the squads. KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav will play in the Duleep Trophy’s first round before the Bangladesh Test series.

1. Rohit Sharma
Sharma, who captains India in Test and ODI formats, is missing from the recently announced squads. This isn’t unexpected, given that India has a lengthy Test season ahead. 2. Virat Kohli
Similar to Rohit Sharma, experienced batsman Virat Kohli has been rested from the Duleep Trophy. The BCCI selectors believe that Kohli’s experience is vital and want him to stay mentally sharp for future challenges. India has several important matches ahead, including three Test series, an ODI series against England, and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025.
3. Ravichandran Ashwin
Veteran off-spinner R Ashwin recently had an outstanding performance in the TNPL 2024, guiding his team to victory. Although he usually participates in this tournament annually, they have given him a break from the Duleep Trophy 2024-25.

4. Mohammed Shami
