Before the 9th edition of the 2024 T20 World Cup starts, all teams have picked their best 15 players who will compete for the trophy. This time, the big event by the ICC will be in the United States, along with the West Indies. There will be 20 teams playing in this shorter version of the World Cup, which is a new twist by the ICC this year.

Since the T20 World Cup began in 2007, there have been 8 tournaments. Many records have been made and broken during these events. This blog shares the top 5 bowlers who have taken the most wickets in the history of the T20 World Cup.

Here are the list of the top 5 bowlers in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

5. Ajantha Mendis – 35

Sri Lanka mystery spinner Ajantha Mendis is the 5th most wicket-taker in the T20 World Cup history. In his overall career, Ajantha Mendis has played 21 games and scalped 35 wickets including his 6 wickets for 8 runs in his T20 World Cup history.   

4. Saeed Ajmal – 36

Pakistani former bowler Saeed Ajmal is the next most wicket-taker in the ICC T20 World Cup history. Spin bowler Saeed Ajmal has scalped 36 wickets with an average rate of 16.86 and an economy rate of 6.79 in 23 T20 World Cup games in his career.

3. Lasith Malinga – 38

Sri Lanka star Lasith Malinga is one of the greatest limited-overs bowlers of his time. The yorker master Lasith Malinga is in the third spot for the ICC T20 Men’s World Cup Trophy bowling the most wickets. During his time, Malinga bagged 38 wickets with an economy rate of 7.43 in 31 T20 World Cup matches in tournament history. His best bowling figure is 5/31 in the T20 World Cup. 

2. Shahid Afridi – 39

Pakistani allrounder Shahidi Afridi is the next highest wicket-taker in the T20 World Cup history. Veteran Shahid Afridi took 39 wickets with a 6.71 economy rate including his 4-wicket haul for 11 runs in his career. Shahid Afridi was named Man of the Series in the 2007 T20 World Cup inaugural season.

1. Shakib Al Hasan – 47

Bangladeshi ex-skipper Shakib Al Hasan is topping the charts of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Trophy bowling the most wickets table. One of the no. 1 allrounders in the world Shakib Al Hasan has scalped 47 wickets including his 4 wicket haul for 9 runs in the 36 matches.
