5 Father-son Duos with the Highest runs in Test Cricket

Test cricket is a popular type of the sport. Fans from all over the world watch Test matches where the best teams compete. It’s unique because it lasts five days and lets each player show their skills twice.

Test cricket is tough, but many players excel at it. Some retired players have introduced their sons to this kind of cricket.

Here is the list top five father-son pairs who scored the most runs in Test cricket.

5. Stuart and Chris Broad – 5,323 runs in Test cricket

Stuart Broad, a cricket player from England, has decided to retire from all types of international cricket. He was known for his skill in bowling and batting. Stuart took 604 wickets with his fast right-arm bowling and scored 3,662 runs for England. He made one century and 13 half-centuries during his career.

His father, Chris Broad, used to play cricket too. Now he works as a match referee. Chris used to open the batting for England and scored 1,661 runs in 25 Test matches. He hit six centuries and six half-centuries during his time playing cricket.

4. Tom and Rod Latham – 5,369 runs in Test cricket

Tom Latham, the current vice-captain of New Zealand, is known for his steady performances. He bats in the top order and can also be the wicketkeeper. In Test matches, he has scored 5,150 runs and made 13 centuries in 74 matches.

His father, Rod Latham, had a shorter international career, scoring 219 runs in four Tests, with one century. Together, Rod and Tom Latham have scored a total of 5,369 runs for New Zealand.

3. Shoaib and Hanif Mohammad – 6,620 runs in Test cricket

Hanif Mohammad and his son Shoaib Mohammad have the most runs among Asian father-son pairs in Test cricket. Shoaib played 47 Test matches for Pakistan, scoring 2,705 runs with seven centuries and 13 half-centuries.

Hanif Mohammad, known for his famous triple century against West Indies in 1957/58, ended his Test career with 3,915 runs. He hit 12 centuries and 15 half-centuries during his time playing for Pakistan.

2. Alec and Micky Stewart – 8,848 runs

Just like the Lathams, in England’s Stewart family, the son scored more runs than the father. Micky Stewart played only eight Tests for England and scored 385 runs, including two half-centuries.

His son Alec had a very successful cricket career. Alec scored a total of 8,463 runs for his country, with his highest score being 190 runs in an innings.

1. Tagenarine and Shivnarine Chanderpaul – 12,396 runs in Test cricket

The Chanderpaul family from the West Indies holds the record for the most runs scored by a father and son in Test cricket. Shivnarine Chanderpaul, a famous West Indies cricketer, scored 11,867 runs in his Test matches. His son, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, has started his Test career and has scored 529 runs in eight matches so far. If Tagenarine continues playing for a long time, they could be the first father-son pair to score more than 15,000 runs in Tests.
