Top 5 Indian Cricketers in World Cup Squad Who Didn’t Play Any Matches

The ICC Cricket World Cup occurs every four years, and while every player selected in the 15-member squad dreams of playing, only 11 can take the field in each match. As a result, some Indian cricketers in the World Cup squad don’t get the chance to play despite being part of the team. In this article, we spotlight these Indian cricketers who were included in the 15-member World Cup squad but didn’t play a single match throughout the tournament, spanning 11 different World Cups.

Here are the names as follows:

1.Sunil Walson

Sunil Walson, a right-handed batsman and right-arm fast bowler, was part of the 13-member Indian team in the 1983 World Cup but didn’t play any matches. After this World Cup, he was never selected for the Indian team again and never played international cricket. Walson played 75 first-class matches from 1977 to 1988 and is now the manager of the IPL team “Delhi Capitals.”

4.Ambati Rayudu 

Ambati Rayudu, a right-handed middle-order batsman, was part of the 15-member Indian team in the 2015 World Cup but didn’t play a single match. He was a strong contender for the 2019 World Cup, but Vijay Shankar was chosen instead. Throughout his ODI career from 2013 to 2019, Rayudu played 55 matches, scoring 1,694 runs at an average of 47.06, with 3 centuries and 10 fifties, and his highest score was 124 not out. He also took 3 wickets and 14 catches.

3.Akshar Patel

Left-handed batsman and spin bowler Akshar Patel was part of the 15-member Indian squad in the 2015 World Cup but didn’t play a single match. Throughout his ODI career from 2014 to 2017, Patel played 38 matches, taking 45 wickets with his best figures of 3/34. He scored 181 runs at an average of 12.92, with a highest score of 38, and made 15 catches.

2.Stuart Binny

Stuart Binny, a right-arm batsman and fast bowler, was part of the 15-member Indian squad for the 2015 ICC World Cup but didn’t play a single game. Throughout his career, Binny has played 14 ODIs since 2014, scoring 230 runs with one fifty and a highest score of 77. His best bowling figures are 4/20, and he has taken 20 wickets in ODIs.

1. Irfan Pathan 

Irfan Pathan, a left-handed batsman and left-arm fast bowler, was part of the 15-member Indian team in the 2007 World Cup but didn’t play a single match. Over his ODI career from 2004 to 2012, Pathan played 120 matches, scoring 1,544 runs at an average of 23.39, with 5 fifties and a highest score of 83. He also took 173 wickets, with his best bowling figures being 5/27, and made 21 catches.
