The committee led by Ajit Agarkar has announced the Indian team for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The tournament will happen in June in the USA and Caribbean Islands. Rohit Sharma will captain the team, with Hardik Pandya as his deputy. Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav will also be key batsmen in the team.
The squad includes Rishabh Pant and Yuzvendra Chahal, who are returning to international cricket. Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube have been selected based on their performances in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Here’s the list of five players who were part of recent Indian T20I squads but have not been chosen for the World Cup squad.
1. Rinku Singh
Since the IPL 2023, India has been testing Rinku Singh as the key player to finish the T20I cricket matches. He has performed impressively with an average score of 89 and a striking rate of 176.24, which is outstanding. Surprisingly, despite his strong performances, he is not currently in the team, which has surprised many fans. However, he will be traveling with the team as a backup player.
Shubman Gill, a prominent player, isn’t in the team this time. He’s been India’s top scorer in all types of cricket recently and is performing well in IPL 2024. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s progress and strong support from the management led selectors to leave Gill out. He’s in the reserve and can step in if required.
3. Ruturaj Gaikwad
Last year, Ruturaj Gaikwad captained Team India to a gold medal victory at the Asian Games. After scoring an impressive century in a T20I match against Australia following the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, he couldn’t play in the South African T20Is due to an injury. As a result, he was left out of the squad. Even though he performed exceptionally well in IPL 2024, he hasn’t been selected for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Shreyas Iyer scored lots of runs for India in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 held in India. After that, he played two T20 matches against Australia and got fifty runs in one match while serving as the team’s vice-captain. He has faced periods of being in and out of the Indian team because of injuries and other reasons. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that he will return to the Indian team anytime soon because earlier this year he was removed from central contracts too.
5. Ravi Bishnoi
The selectors chose four spinners for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, but they didn’t pick Ravi Bishnoi. He’s currently ranked as the fifth-best T20I bowler globally. Earlier, he became number one after winning the Player of the Series award in a T20 series against Australia in 2023. However, he won’t be part of the Indian team for the upcoming big tournament.
