The IPL is the most popular cricket league. It started in 2008 and has become very famous. The idea for it came from the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007. Another league, the Vitality T20 Blast in England, is older, but it’s not as well-known as the IPL. The Mumbai Indians are the most successful team, winning 5 times. The Chennai Super Kings have won 4 times.
The top 5 teams listed here have won the most games in a season.
1. Rajasthan Royals (11/14) in 2008 – 78.57
The first IPL season in 2008 was really special for the Rajasthan Royals. They were the champions! Led by Shane Warne, they won 11 matches and beat strong teams like Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders. This was their best season ever. After that, they didn’t do so well in the IPL.
2. Kings XI Punjab (11/14) in 2014 – 78.57
In the 2014 IPL season, Punjab Kings had a good time. Their captain, George Bailey from Australia, led them well. They won 11 out of 14 matches and made it to the final game. Unfortunately, they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders in the final. Wriddhiman Saha scored a great century in that match, but Punjab’s bowling wasn’t good enough, so they lost.
3. Mumbai Indians (10/14) in 2010 – 71.43
In the third season of the Indian Premier League, the Mumbai Indians team, led by Sachin Tendulkar, did really well. They ended up on top in the league games and secured a spot in the playoffs. Sachin was the top scorer for Mumbai Indians that season, and with a strong bowling team, they made it to the finals. But they lost to CSK by 22 runs in the final match, so CSK won the IPL 2010 trophy.
4. Mumbai Indians (10/14) in 2017 – 71.43
The team that won the IPL in 2017 was really good throughout the league phase. They won 5 matches in a row, which was a record for that season. They made it to the finals and won against the Rising Pune Supergiants by just 1 run. Lasith Malinga’s amazing performance helped them win in the final moments. They were ranked 3rd and 4th for the most match wins in a single season.
5 Deccan Chargers (10/14) in 2009 – 71.43
Adam Gilchrist, the leader of Deccan Chargers, was really amazing in the second season of the Indian Premier League. His team impressed everyone and won against all the other teams. This was the second time an Australian captain led the team to victory. In the final match, Royal Challengers Bangalore, led by Anil Kumble, couldn’t beat Deccan Chargers and lost by 6 runs.
