David Warner, a great cricket player, recently retired from Test and ODI cricket. He was famous for being one of the best opening batters ever. Warner, from New South Wales, played aggressively and had a unique style that people will miss. Despite being involved in a cheating scandal in 2018, he still made a big impact on Test cricket.
Let’s look at his top 5 best performances in Test matches:
1. 335 vs Pakistan, 2019
David Warner said thank you to the fans after he scored a really big triple century in a cricket match. This happened in 2019 at the Adelaide Oval against Pakistan.
In the match, Australia batted first and scored a huge 589 runs before they stopped. Warner started slow but then started scoring really fast against the Pakistani bowlers. He didn’t get out and scored 335 runs before Australia’s captain Tim Paine decided to stop their batting and let Pakistan bat.
Warner’s score of 335 made him the second highest scorer in Australian cricket history, just behind Matthew Hayden’s 380. He passed the scores of famous players like Sir Donald Bradman and Mark Taylor during this day-night Test match.
2. 253 vs New Zealand, 2015
Warner scored 253 runs against New Zealand in 2015. It’s the second highest on this list. It was his first time scoring over 200 runs in a game.
Australia batted first and scored 559 runs before they stopped playing. Warner’s 253 and Khawaja’s 121 were big contributions.
New Zealand batted after Australia. Taylor got close to scoring 300 runs but fell short. They ended up with 624 runs.
Williamson also scored 166 runs. The game ended in a draw, which is common in high-scoring matches.
3. 200 vs South Africa, 2022
David Warner hit his third score of 200 runs in seven years, playing really well against the South African team at the MCG in 2022.
South Africa batted first but couldn’t score much, only reaching 189 runs before getting out. Cameron Green, an Australian player, took five wickets.
Then, Australia batted and scored a big total of 575-8. Alex Carey made 100 runs, and Steven Smith made 84 runs, along with Warner’s fantastic 200 runs.
In the second round of batting, South Africa didn’t do much better, scoring only 204 runs. Australia won the game easily by a huge margin of 182 runs.
4. 180 vs India, 2012
David Warner was new to playing Test cricket when he did something big by scoring 180 runs against India in Perth, Australia, in 2012.
He almost reached 200 runs in that game, but didn’t quite make it.
India had some great batsmen like Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, and VVS Laxman, but they didn’t do well in their first turn to bat and got out for only 161 runs.
Australia did much better, scoring 369 runs mainly because of Warner’s 180 runs and Ed Cowan’s 74 runs.
Even though Dravid did well in the second turn to bat with 47 runs, India didn’t do well overall and got out for only 171 runs, giving Australia an easy win by a lot of runs.
5. 164 vs Pakistan, 2023
Warner made 164 runs against Pakistan in the first Test at OPTUS Stadium in Perth. Before this series, his friend Mitchell Johnson criticized him for retiring when he wanted to. Despite the pressure, Warner played exceptionally well and scored 164 runs. His performance helped Australia win the series 3-0 by giving them a strong start in the first match.
