5 Knocks Of Rohit Sharma In T20 World Cups

The world of cricket has many T20 specialists, but only a few players perform consistently at the highest level. India has produced many great players over the years who have excelled in T20 cricket. Whether it’s hitting six sixes in an over or smashing two sixes off the last two balls of a super over to win, Indian players have done it all.

Rohit Sharma is one of the greatest T20 players. Since the first T20 World Cup, he has scored over 3800 runs in the format. He has been a key player for India in both bilateral and ICC tournaments and holds the record for the most centuries in T20 cricket. Having played in five T20 World Cups, Rohit has made a significant impact on Indian cricket.

Let’s look back at the top five performances of Rohit Sharma in the T20 World Cups.

1. 79* (46) vs Australia, Kensington Oval, 2010

This performance by Rohit Sharma will be one of the best in his T20 career, not just in the T20 World Cup. In the match against Australia, the Indian team struggled while chasing a total of 184 runs. Rohit Sharma, batting in the middle-order, was the only player among the top eight to score more than 10 runs, eventually scoring 79 runs.

When India was in trouble at 23 for four, Rohit Sharma stepped in and took on bowlers like Shaun Tait, Dirk Nannes, Mitchell Johnson, and Shane Watson. He hit six sixes and four boundaries, giving fans hope. However, despite his efforts, India couldn’t win because wickets kept falling at the other end.

2. 74 (47) vs Afghanistan, Sheikh Zayed Stadium, 2021

In the T20 World Cup 2021, India didn’t do well and didn’t make it to the knockout stage. Rohit Sharma also struggled, except in the game against Afghanistan where he scored a lot of runs.

Rohit, known as the “Hitman,” scored 74 runs from 47 balls with an aggressive start. This was his second-best performance in the T20 World Cup. He hit eight boundaries and three sixes, forming a 140-run opening partnership. India won that match by 66 runs.

3. 62 (55) vs West Indies, Shere Bangla National Stadium, 2014

The T20 World Cup 2012 took place in Bangladesh. India, despite winning the first T20 World Cup in 2007, didn’t make it to the knockout stage. This tournament was the first time Rohit Sharma opened the innings for India, making the team look stronger.

In the match against the West Indies, Indian bowlers did a great job and limited the West Indies to 129 runs. India chased the target easily, winning with seven wickets remaining. Rohit Sharma was the top scorer with 62 runs, hitting five boundaries and two sixes.

4. 55 (33) vs England, R Premadasa Stadium, 2012

In the 2012 T20 World Cup, Rohit Sharma returned to the team after not being part of India’s 2011 World Cup-winning squad. In a game against England, India won by 90 runs, bowling out the defending champions for just 88 runs.

Rohit Sharma was the top scorer with 55 runs, helping India reach a total of 170 runs. He hit five boundaries and one six against bowlers Steven Finn, Stuart Broad, and Tim Bresnan. This performance was special for Rohit Sharma, as he was eager to do well for India after missing out on the 2011 World Cup.

5. 50* (40) vs South Africa, Kingsmead, 2007

When Rohit Sharma was just 20 years old, he showed his great batting skills in the first T20 World Cup. He got his chance to bat in the second game against South Africa. The top batters didn’t score well, so Rohit came in to bat at number five.

He surprised everyone by playing brilliantly against famous bowlers like Shaun Pollock, Makhaya Ntini, Morne Morkel, and Vernon Philander.
