5 Players Who Have Represented Two Different Countries in International Cricket

Playing cricket for your country in international matches is the biggest dream for any player. It takes years of hard work and dedication to reach this goal. When a player finally gets to play for their country for the first time, it’s a very special day for them.

While many players have experienced this moment, only a few have had the chance to do it more than once. Some players have even represented two different countries during their cricket careers. Currently, there are 33 players who have played international cricket for two nations.

In this article, we will look at five of these players.

1. Luke Ronchi (AUS & NZ)

Luke Ronchi is the first player on this list. He played cricket for both Australia and New Zealand. He batted with his right hand. Ronchi played for Australia from 2008 to 2009 and then for New Zealand from 2013 to 2017. During his time with Australia, he played 3 T20I games and 4 ODIs. He scored 47 runs in T20Is and 76 runs in ODIs.

After not being on the Australian team for a while, he started playing for New Zealand’s domestic team. He performed well in domestic matches and was selected to play for New Zealand’s national team. He played 81 ODIs and 29 T20Is for New Zealand, scoring 1321 runs in ODIs and 312 runs in T20Is.

2. Roelof van der Merwe (SA & NED)

Roelof van der Merwe is another player in this group. He played cricket for South Africa from 2009 to 2011. After that, he started playing for the Netherlands in 2015 and still plays for them.

When he played for South Africa, he was an all-rounder and played in 13 ODIs and 13 T20Is. He scored 39 runs in ODIs and 57 runs in T20Is. For the Netherlands, he has played 3 ODIs and 33 T20Is. In those matches, he scored 57 runs in ODIs and 403 runs in T20Is.

3. David Wiese (SA and NAM)

David Wiese is another player on this list. He played cricket for South Africa from 2015 to 2016. He batted with his right hand and played 6 one-day international matches (ODIs) and 20 Twenty20 internationals (T20Is) for South Africa, scoring 102 and 92 runs respectively. In 2021, he started playing for Namibia and continues to do so. So far, Wiese has played 5 ODIs and 16 T20Is for Namibia, scoring 165 and 295 runs.

4. Mark Chapman (HK & NZ)

Mark Chapman is a player on this list too. He played cricket for Hong Kong from 2014 to 2016, in 2 ODIs and 19 T20Is. He scored 151 runs in ODIs and 392 runs in T20Is during that time. Since 2018, he has been playing for the New Zealand team. He has played 4 ODIs and 14 T20Is for them, scoring 10 runs in ODIs and 227 runs in T20Is.

5. Eoin Morgan (IRE & ENG)

Eoin Morgan is a player on this list. He used to captain the England cricket team and also played for Ireland. He retired from international cricket in June 2022. Morgan started his career with Ireland from 2006 to 2009 and then joined the England team in 2009.

While playing for Ireland, Morgan participated in 23 ODIs and scored 744 runs. His career with England was successful from 2009 to 2022, during which he played over 225 ODIs. He scored a total of 6957 runs with an average of 39.75. Morgan also played 16 Test matches and 102 T20Is for England, scoring 700 and 2311 runs respectively.
