5. Joe Root – 556
Joe Root, who scored the most runs for England, was really important for the team’s batting in the tournament. He came fifth in the list of players who scored the most runs in the tournament, getting 556 runs from 11 times at bat. He made two centuries and three half-centuries.
Root’s really good at batting. He knows how to score points steadily by hitting the ball into the open spaces and making runs when needed. He did so well that he made history by being the first English player to score 500 runs in World Cup matches.

4. Kane Williamson – 578
As the team captain, he felt a lot of pressure to do well in batting. He played in the third position and did really well, scoring 578 runs with an average of 82.57. He got two half-centuries and two centuries, one against South Africa.
People said his success in 2019 was because he could handle pressure well and change his game depending on the situation. His good batting and leadership helped New Zealand reach the final of the tournament. Even though they didn’t win the final, he was named the best player of the whole tournament because of his great performance.
3. Shakib Al Hasan – 606
In 2018, Shakib had a tough time because his fingers got hurt. But as the captain and a top player in the team, he felt responsible and wanted to show he was still great.
He played amazingly well in the tournament, scoring 606 runs with an average of 86.57, which means he did really, really good. He even made two centuries. This made him beat Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most runs scored in the group stages of the tournament since 2003.
Shakib also did something special by being the first player to score 500 runs and take 10 wickets in a single World Cup. Because of his great performance, everyone agreed he was the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of that tournament.
2. David Warner – 647
Coming back to play cricket after being banned for cheating with the ball in 2018 was really tough for the Australian player. Warner had to face a lot of attention in England during the World Cup because of the long-standing rivalry between Australia and England in cricket. Despite facing a lot of pressure from the media and fans of other teams, Warner did amazingly well during the 2019 World Cup in England.
He scored a total of 647 runs in the tournament, missing just one run to beat Rohit Sharma’s score. He kept up a great average of 71 and scored impressive centuries against Pakistan, South Africa, and Bangladesh. Warner’s excellent performance with the bat was a big reason why Australia made it to the semi-finals, where they lost to the home team, England.

1. Rohit Sharma – 648
During the 2019 World Cup in England, Rohit Sharma, also known as the Hitman, played incredibly well. He scored a total of 648 runs in nine matches, with an average of 81. Rohit made five centuries, scoring tons against teams like Pakistan, England, and South Africa.
Even though the pressure was high during the World Cup, Rohit kept scoring runs easily. He was the first player ever to make five centuries in one World Cup.
Sadly, India lost in the semi-finals. Despite Rohit’s amazing performance, he didn’t get the Player of the Tournament award, which was disappointing for him.
