Top 5 Slowest Fifty in IPL History

IPL

Cricket can be really funny sometimes, especially when unexpected things happen. Like when players score runs slowly in T20 matches, where the aim is usually to score quickly. T20 matches are really popular among fans because they’re short and exciting.

But what happens if a player takes their time to score runs? That’s happened in the Indian Premier League (IPL) too. Let’s talk about the top five slowest half-centuries ever scored in the IPL. Some of the players on this list are usually very aggressive, so it might surprise you.

Here’s the list of 5 slowest fifty in ipl history:

5. Gautam Gambhir (51 balls)

slowest fifty in by Gautam Gambhir in IPL

Three batters hit a fifty in the IPL in 51 balls. They are Gautam Gambhir, Matthew Hayden, and Jacques Kallis. But Gambhir batted at No. 5 because he was slow overall. Gambhir scored a fifty in 51 balls against CSK in the IPL 2010 in Chennai. He made 57 runs not out off 56 balls. His team, Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), won the game by six wickets, chasing 113 runs.

4. Robin Uthappa (52 balls)

Slowest Half-centuries by Robin Uthappa in IPL

Robin Uthappa hit a fifty really slowly in the IPL. This happened during a match in 2012 between Pune Warriors and Delhi Daredevils. Uthappa was playing for Pune at that time. He scored 60 runs without getting out from 58 balls. Pune’s team scored 146/2, but Delhi easily chased it down in 16 overs and won the match by 8 wickets.

3. Brendon McCullum (52 balls)

slowest fifty in by Brendon McCullum in IPL

Brendon McCullum was famous for batting aggressively. He once scored 158 runs in a game, hitting the ball hard and fast. But he also had a slow game once. In another match, it took him 52 balls to reach fifty runs, which is quite slow for him. This happened in the IPL 2010 when he played for KKR. In that match, KKR won by nine wickets against MI. McCullum scored 57 runs from 56 balls, which is not as fast as usual for him.

2. Parthiv Patel (53 balls)

slowest fifty by Parthiv Pate in IPL

Parthiv Patel scored the second slowest fifty in IPL history. He made it during the 2010 season in a match between PBKS and CSK in Chennai. This match ended in a tie with both teams scoring 136 runs. CSK needed 137 to win but only managed to score 136/7. Parthiv took 53 balls to reach fifty and scored 57 off 58 balls. His slow batting style contributed to CSK losing the game.

1. JP Duminy (55 balls)

slowest fifty in by JP Duminy in IPL

In the 2009 IPL season, there was a cricket match between Kings XI Punjab (now called Punjab Kings) and Mumbai Indians. Punjab batted first but only scored 119 runs for 8 wickets in their innings. Despite this low score, they managed to win the match because Mumbai Indians could only score 116 runs for 7 wickets in their chase. JP Duminy from Mumbai Indians was the only player who performed well, scoring 59 runs off 63 balls, but it took him 55 balls to reach 50 runs, which is the slowest in IPL history. His slow batting made it difficult for Mumbai Indians to win the match, even though he scored most of the team’s runs.
