Over the past decade, Bangladesh has significantly improved in cricket and has challenged top cricketing nations. They’ve discovered talented players who have excelled in T20 International matches.
Let’s highlight the top 5 T20I performances by Bangladesh bowlers:
5. Mashrafe Mortaza vs Ireland, 3rd T20I, Belfast 2012
In July 2012, Bangladesh played against Ireland in the final match of a three-match T20I series. Bangladesh had already won the first two games, so this match was a chance for Ireland to end the series on a positive note.
Ireland chose to bat first and started well, reaching 67 for 1 in eight overs. However, Mashrafe Mortaza, a veteran bowler for Bangladesh, turned the game around. He dismissed William Porterfield early and took three more wickets in his next two overs. Ireland struggled and managed to score only 140 runs in their 20 overs.
Bangladesh successfully chased down the target on the last ball, winning the series 3-0.
4. Al-Amin Hossain vs Pakistan, Match 8, Mirpur, Asia Cup 2016
In the Asia Cup 2016, Bangladesh faced Pakistan in the eighth match. Bangladesh had just beaten Sri Lanka and was aiming for a spot in the finals. To do that, they needed to outperform Pakistan. Shahid Afridi, Pakistan’s captain, chose to bat after winning the toss.
Bangladesh’s bowlers, led by Al-Amin Hossain, were up to the challenge. Al-Amin took Khurram Manzoor’s wicket in the very first over. Later, he conceded only four runs in the 18th over and dismissed Afridi, who was a dangerous batsman.
Al-Amin finished strong by getting Anwar Ali out on the last ball of Pakistan’s innings. Pakistan managed only 129 runs. Bangladesh successfully chased down the modest target of 130 with five balls to spare. Soumya Sarkar, with 48 runs off 48 balls, was the top scorer and earned the Player of the Match award.
Despite the victory, Bangladesh lost the final match to India by eight wickets.
3. Mustafizur Rahman vs New Zealand 2016 T20 World Cup
Mustafizur Rahman, the left-arm pacer, showcased his talent on the international stage during the 2016 T20 World Cup match against New Zealand. He consistently took wickets, disrupting New Zealand’s batting lineup. His impressive performance led to the Kiwis posting only 145 runs. Despite this, Bangladesh lost the game by 75 runs. Mustafizur’s figures for the match were 5 wickets for 22 runs in 4 overs, making it the best bowling performance of that tournament.
2. Shakib Al Hasan vs West Indies, 2nd T20I, Mirpur 2018
In the second game of the three-match T20I series in Mirpur, Bangladesh faced the West Indies. Bangladesh needed to win this match after losing the first one. They batted first and scored a massive 211 runs, with Litton Das as the top scorer (60 runs off 34 balls).
The West Indies had a strong batting lineup, but Bangladesh’s skipper, Shakib Al Hasan, led from the front. He took crucial wickets and prevented the Windies from scoring freely. The visitors were eventually bowled out for 175, and Bangladesh won by 36 runs. Shakib’s outstanding performance helped level the series 1-1.
