Two Former Tripura Players to Represent USA in T20 World Cup

Two former players from the Tripura Ranji team, Milind Kumar and Harmeet Singh, have been selected to play for the United States in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. The Joint Secretary of Tripura Cricket Association, Jayanta Dey, shared insights into their performances and rise in international cricket. Both players have permanently moved to the USA, making them eligible for the national team. The T20 World Cup will take place from June 1 to 29 in the USA and the West Indies, with the USA set to compete against India on June 12.

Milind Kumar’s Journey to the USA Team

Milind Kumar had an impressive domestic cricket career, scoring 1331 runs in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy season. Seeking better opportunities, he migrated to the USA and has now earned a spot in their T20 World Cup squad. Kumar played for the Tripura Ranji team during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons. His consistent performances in domestic cricket have paved the way for his selection in the USA team.

Harmeet Singh’s Rise in International Cricket

Harmeet Singh, who was part of India’s 2012 Under-19 World Cup-winning team, also moved to the USA. Singh played for the Tripura Ranji team for two successive seasons starting from 2018-19. His contribution to domestic cricket and experience in international youth cricket has been significant in securing his place in the USA’s T20 World Cup squad. Notably, another prominent player, Unmukt Chand, who also moved to the USA, was not selected for the squad, while former New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson made the cut.

Tanmay Mishra to Play for Kenya

Tanmay Mishra, another former Tripura player, will be representing Kenya in the T20 World Cup. Mishra, who holds dual citizenship of Kenya and India, played for the Tripura Ranji team in the 2019-20 season. His unique eligibility stems from his Indian father and Kenyan mother. Mishra debuted in international cricket for Kenya in 2006 and has continued to excel in domestic leagues, including scoring over 1,000 runs in a local league season, which led to his selection for the Ranji team.

The Tripura Cricket Association has extended its best wishes to all the players for their international endeavors in the T20 World Cup.
